Kampot Province is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts, offering a variety of trekking destinations that showcase the region's natural beauty. From waterfalls to temples, each trek provides a unique experience. Here's a guide to some of the best hiking trails around Kampot.
Popokvil Waterfall (Up Bokor Mountain)
• Pin: Popokvil Waterfall
• Duration: Flexible, as long as you wish to walk down the riverbed.
• Highlights: Two cascading waterfalls and an adventurous riverbed walk.
• Access: About 1 hour by motorbike from Sabay Beach Kampot.
Veal Pouch Waterfall
• Pin: Veal Pouch Waterfall
• Duration: 1.5 hours to the highest waterfall
• Highlights: Natural pools, small waterfalls along the way, and views of Coconut Mountain and Kep National Park.
• Access: About 30 min by tuktuk from Sabay Beach Kampot. Start walking along the river after passing Veal Pouch Temple.
500 Buddhas
• Pin: 500 Buddhas Trek
• Duration: 1.25-1.75 hours to the top
• Highlights: A steep trek leading to rustic abandoned temples and hundreds of Buddha statues.
• Access: From Sabay Beach Kampot, take a tuktuk (30 min) or motorbike via the Komchai Ferry (10 min ride to departure point of the trek near Tek Chhu Rapids).
Omal Waterfall (Banana Waterfall)
• Pin: Omal Waterfall Trek
• Duration: 1-1.5 hours to the top, the same time to descend.
• Highlights: Trek through banana plantations to a picturesque waterfall.
• Access: From Kampot Camping, walk a few hundred meters towards the mountain. From Sabay Beach Kampot, take a tuktuk (30 min) or motorbike via the Komchai Ferry (5 min ride to departure point of the trek).
Phnom Sor (White Mountain)
• Pin: Phnom Sor
• Duration: 30 min
• Highlights: 360 views. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises. There are many legends about the past lives of the Old Lady who used to live on top of Phnom Sor (she now lives at the foot of the hill). She decorated the caves on the hill with holy artefacts and you can go there to pray. You can offer her a small donation (fruits, water, tobacco, money, ...) if you meet her.
• Access: From Sabay Beach Kampot, walk (20min) to the hill, or ride a motorbike (5min) to the hill.
Golden Temple
• Pin: Golden Temple Trek
• Duration: 30 min
• Highlights: A newly built pagoda, an older temple, and stunning views from the top of a smaller mountain located above the temple area.
• Access: From Sabay Beach Kampot, take a tuktuk (30 min) or motorbike via the Komchai Ferry (10 min ride to departure near Tek Chhu Rapids).
Kampot Reservoir
• Access: Restricted dam area, only accessible via steep paths through the hills north-west of Stoeng Sangke Kampot River.
• Duration: 2 hours to the dam, 2 hours to return
• Highlights: Suitable for experienced trekkers, bring plenty of water, though you can find natural springs along the way.
• Note: Kampot OG’s secret.
Kep National Park
• Pin: Kep National Park
• Duration: Flexible
• Highlights: Easy walks on a newly built road, with smaller trails leading deeper into the forest towards Kep Reservoir.
• Access: About 45 min by motorbike/tuktuk from Sabay Beach Kampot.
• Note: Be cautious of trails that may not be cleared.
